This door was designed primarily by Heacock Architects to match overall design of this home redo in Serman Oaks, LA. Local wood finish specialist Joe Amaral applied an extra special stain that includes an ink wash, as well as applied mineral staining to the vertical grain Douglas Fir wood. Custom designed glass panels will be installed shortly. I took the architect sketch and designed the construction of the door to have a vertical grain pattern that is not interrupted by any horizontal trim at all. in person the effect is extraordinary.

This door was designed using the original leaded glass from a chapel in Manhattan, NY as the core inspiration. I wanted to make something that would add to the glass and glorify it's beauty. I saw it as an opportunity to collaborate with Tiffany Studios, so I played off the fluer de lis design with vertical floral patterning. Each Cherry wood panel depicts the flowers in a more closed flower bud form, so the door shows time and life.

This door was designed using marblewood end-grain flooring from Kaswell flooring. Any of their flooring source material can be utilized in our Puzzle Series doors. It includes marblewood and old growth redwood. The two tall dark panels are a rare form of sinker redwood that is naturally dark in hue. The two glass windows are customizable with art panels or architectural glass.

This door was designed to reflect the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens visitor experience. It includes five species of wood, as well as other artistic and design elements that speak to the overall theme of the gardens: the land, plant life, air, water, sunlight and art of the Garden. Two artists collaborated providing the artwork for this door. The bronze panel was created by Bonnie C. Veblen, an artist of notable merit whose bronze work is included in numerous collections including the Smithsonian Museum. The glass piece was created by Yorgen Q. Kvinsland owner of ArtStruct. It reflects the calming effect of raindrops on a pool of water.

Carmel Curves Door

This door was designed to reflect the building's architecture (arching roof line) as well as the calming effect of meditation, an interest of the client. Also requested was that the door have a peep hatch. ArtStruct commissioned local metal and jewelry artist Rene Roberts to create the hatch, custom catch, and hinge. Roberts created an electroformed copper piece molded from a sample of end-grain wood.

This door was designed with consideration for two of the client's interests in mind. First was the desire to use glass to match custom light sconces by local glass artist Buster Dyer. ArtStruct commissioned Dyer to create the blown glass insert. The second element was to feature a very special piece of old-growth curly redwood, along with the texture of the end-grain wood pattern.

The inspiration for this door came from traditional Scandinavian herringbone design, a reflection of the client's heritage. This door features end-grain redwood from 20 different trees. Consequently, the differences in growth rings among one species are easily apparent.

This door was designed in the quest of making an affordable art door that could be easily customized through simple changes in the glass pane at the top. The frame is constructed with salvaged sinker redwood that was dredged from the bottom of the Big River tidal zone in Mendocino in the early 1980s. It is a special and very finite material. The block panel is made of Fir.

The "Cleone" door was designed in ArtStruct's signature style of end-grain wood blocks supported by an internal straight-grain frame structure. A sinker redwood frame makes this door extra special. Garage Doors were also designed and constructed to match this entryway.

This door is an artistic statement and a special collaboration with Bay Area artist Ben Belknap. ArtStruct commissioned Belknap to create a series of his signature ceramic heads to be placed strategically within the design of the door so that they would "relate" to each other. The hexagon grid pattern, highlighted by gold paint on one side, is a direct reference to the geometric structure of the honeybee hive. The wood for this door is composed entirely of odd chunks of locally sourced and salvaged old growth redwood. The frame is made from sinker redwood from the Big River tidal zone. The streaked black color of the sinker redwood comes from the fact that it was cured over time in saltwater.

Bainbridge Park Restroom Doors

LSN Architects designed these doors to be in keeping with the other historic structures on the grounds of this Fort Bragg public park. ArtStruct constructed eight doors and two arched panels out of locally sourced salvaged old growth redwood. At the conclusion of this project, the Fort Bragg City Council publicly thanked and recognized ArtStruct for "constructing the beautiful doors...and creating a wonderful new environment."
