This ArtStruct door is designed to reflect the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden visitor experience: the land, plant life, clean air and water, sun, and art of the Garden. The entryway is comprised of various media, including a sampling of some very special pieces of wood.
The doorframe consists of wood from a 1500-year-old redwood, excavated from tidal river bottom. The central end grain panel, consisting of salvaged redwood and pacific northwest cedar, floats together with flat sawn tulipwood from the California State Capitol grounds, two different species of California Central Valley black walnut grafted together, and two original art pieces created specifically for this project. Artist Bonnie C. Veblen created the bronze panel, which reflects how art, math, and nature are inherently related. Artist Yorgen Q. Kvinsland created the poured and hot worked glass panel, which was inspired by the calm and meditative qualities of falling rain.
The tactile elements of this door are best appreciated in person. Please view and enjoy the newest ArtStruct commission…at the Garden.
